Diabetes is an insidious disease that affects every part of the human body…causing heart attacks and strokes leading to amputation of limbs, slowly destroying vision, damaging the kidneys, and often leading to death if not diagnosed and managed properly.
Diabetes affects the lives of everyone touched by the disease. The person with diabetes faces serious issues, but families, friends, co-workers and others are affected as well.
Diabetes affects the overall health of the community. Hospitals, community clinics, city/county health departments, schools and others work to provide services to assist those with diabetes. But resources within the community are often limited, and it is important to be aware of other programs and services available.
Diabetes affects the well-being of our state and the health of our nation. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in Oklahoma. Nationally, diabetes is now considered an epidemic.

Diabetes Solutions was founded in 2000…the result of discussions with a statewide advisory board on diabetes care needs in Oklahoma.
